Rand Paul Kicked off Main Stage at Fox Business Debate – My Thoughts

FOX News / Fox Business has demoted to Rand Paul to the second tier debate stage at the upcoming GOP debate scheduled for Thursday, January 14 2016. He did not make the 7 person cut of the main stage debate, which includes Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson and John Kasich. Although he ranks #1 in the second stage debate which also includes Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and Rick Santorum. This news has come as a shock to many adamant Rand Paul supporters, who say that he is the best candidate in the race. Paul’s campaign is very strong according to the numbers, as he has been able to raise more than $25 million dollars so far. However, apparently the national polling numbers tell a different story.

FOX Business says that their formula for coming up with the 7 people on the main debate stage is the top 6 people who are polling nationally, and one wild card position, a person who is not ranking in the top 6 nationally, but is doing well in either New Hampshire and/or Iowa. John Kasich was chosen for that last spot, because while he did not poll well at all nationally, he was strong in New Hampshire. Rand Paul has questioned the efficacy of this nomination process, and will not participate in the upcoming debate at all. He says his campaign is top tier and he will not participate in anything less than top tier.

Which makes sense logically, since Paul is relatively young for a Presidential candidate at only 53 years old. He will most likely just go back to being a Kentucky Senator (a race he wins by default since he will run unopposed) and regroup for the next election cycle. Much of the base that he has generated, and the base that his father, Ron Paul, has generated, will remain with him. By that time, much of the Donald Trump craze may have died down, and others will have a chance to bolster themselves. Respect for Rand will not diminish because of the way he’s handling his campaign, which is a great strategy for the future. Unfortunately, he does not have a chance at this point and may drop out soon, but the future for Rand Paul on a national level looks bright.
