Fox Business GOP Debate RECAP 1.14.16 – Ted Cruz Birther Issue, New York Values, Trump and China

Fox Business Network (Fox News) hosted a GOP Presidential debate on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 6pm to 7pm (undercard debate featuring Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and Rick Santorum.) Rand Paul was supposed to be there as well, but he declined the invitation.

The main stage debate, featuring Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, and John Kasich, started with much glitz and glamour, fanfare. Felt more like a college football game with the cinematic opening trailers and the young lady singing the national anthem. Ben Carson was coughing again! Ted Cruz opens up responding to a question about Obama painting the economy as all roses with a response that’s simply editorializing about Iran, saying he wouldn’t have the soldiers on their knees and that he would retaliate.

Trump got booed when talking about Cruz, but he also got applause. He admits that he brought the birther issue up because he’s doing better. Cruz says the guy that Trump is mentioning that questions his eligibility, Larry Tribe, is Al Gore’s lawyer and a Hillary supporter.

Cruz brings up “New York Values”, unintentionally insults New York by saying they have a lot of liberal values, abortion and gay marriage, says not many conservatives come from Manhattan. Trump gets serious and brings up WTC bombing and how much New York suffered and how they all came together.

Trump says China has control over North Korea when asked about imposing tariffs on foreign goods. Trump talking about imposing tariffs on China, won’t happen. Talking crazy about China is an exercise in futility because they are the big dog now. Chris Christie says reform the corporate tax system because companies offshore. Simple solution is to lower taxes to increase domestic spending that boosts the economy. Cruz and Carson both have simple flat Tax, says Rubio has complex tax rate with 35% top rate. Rubio tries to equate H1-B vias to amnesty from southern border Mexicans and jihadis, panel grills him on the gang of 8 bill.
