Stanford University Swimmer Brock Turner Gets Light Sentence for Rape – It’s Not Racially Motivated

Brock Turner, a scholarship swimmer, 20 years old (at the time, 19) raped an unconscious 22 year old (now 23) woman behind a dumpster at Stanford. This happened on January 17, 2015. Two Swedish students discovered the act in progress and stopped it, chased him down after he ran away. He was convicted in March of the intent to commit rape of an intoxicated/unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person.

Turner’s father wrote a letter to the DA begging for leniency, says that a six year sentence would be a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of 20 years of life. Brock Turner tried to say he didn’t know anything about college party culture and drugs, but then evidence unearthed after the case says otherwise. Regardless of the evidence, or in lieu of evidence yet submitted, Turner wound up getting six months in jail, three years probation, and must register as a sex offender. The sentence was handed out by Judge Aaron Persky. He may be out as early as September 2nd 2016 on good behavior.

The victim wrote a very detailed and graphic 12 page letter after the judge rendered his sentencing. In the letter, she says she was partying and drinking, but she did not know what had happened to her when she woke up in a hospital. There is a petition to get Aaron Persky, the judge in the case who rendered the decision, impeached on with nearly 1,000,000 signatures.

They bring up the white male privilege, racism, and college jock angle, but it doesn’t hold water because there was another case similar to this one where he presided and the people involved got off in 2007. Nine players of the De Anza basketball team (most of whom were most likely black or at least non-white) were accused of gang raping a 17 year old until three soccer players allegedly discovered her unconscious and covered in vomit. The DA, Dolores Carr, decided to not move forward with the case. When the case came to civil court, Aaron Persky gave a statement that essentially discredited the alleged victim.
